Good Will Hunting:

Updated: Nov 8, 2022

success, ambition, friendship

Good Will Hunting is a story of a young man with a genius mind who works at MIT as a janitor. Living an economically challenging life in Boston, Will had never gotten the chance of higher education. After he solves a complex, graduate-level math question, a professor seeks for him to study at the university as a student. Will, after getting arrested for attacking a police officer, starts therapy sessions with Sean, who is played by the talented Robin Williams.

The story, in the bigger picture, represents a journey of a passionate young man who learns about meeting his best potential, achievements, and love from a mentor who he truly admires.

Although Will, as intricate of a character as he is, sees himself to solemnly belong to the streets of Boston and sees any attempts of the professor and Sean to help him as worthless and ingenuine efforts at the beginning, it changes towards the end. Indeed my favorite scene in the movie is when Chuckie and Will are talking about Will's future. Will says that he does not belong to a college seat, or a job office, he belongs to the neighborhood in which they grew up, next to his friends, and that he wants to stay like this till the day he dies. Chuckie's response is of a kind that speaks sincerity and best wishes a brother would give.

"Let me tell you what I do know; every day, I come by your house and I pick you up. And we go out, we have a few drinks and a few laughs, and it's great. You know what the best part of my day is? It's for about ten seconds when I pull up to the curb to when I get to your door. 'Cause I think maybe I'll get up there and I'll knock on the door and you won't be there. No goodbye, no "see ya later", no nothin'. You just left. I don't know much, but I know that."

personal rating of the movie: 10/10
