The book follows the story of Feyre, the youngest of three girls, who must hunt in the wild to survive and take care of her family. She lives with her father and her two older sisters, Nesta and Elain, in a small shack in the woods. Since the war between the mortals and the Fae, their lives have been completely turned upside down.
The story begins with Feyre hunting in the woods during the peak of winter. While tracking a deer, she kills a wolf—who turns out to be a Fae from the magical lands beyond the wall, as these beings possess powerful magic and shape-shifting abilities. After the killing, a beast-like creature comes to her home and takes Feyre away as punishment for killing the wolf. The rest of the story follows Feyre’s time in the Fae lands with Tamlin, the High Fae of the Spring Court, who becomes the main love interest.
After reading the book, I understood why the series became so popular when it was first published. Sarah J. Maas’s writing style is extremely easy to follow while still keeping you engaged and entertained. The fantasy world draws you in, making you want to learn more about the immortal lands and the stories of each character. Overall, it is a compelling fantasy book, and I'm glad I picked it up.
